I believe a huge part of being human is hope. Hope is such a complex feeling. You hope for the smallest of changes. You hope for a little better day. Hope for the sun to shine a little on you. It is such a small yet massive feeling that it encapsulates our life with so much abundance.
Hope is such a terrifying word. It’s like expecting spring to come early when you see just a tiny sapling. Even the most miniscule things can make us hope.
It’s like when you see a small leaf slowly making it’s way from a dead branch. It makes you want to water it and make sure it grows right back again. Exactly, that is what I think of when it comes to hope. A soft nudge on the shoulder. A trusted hand on top of yours. A small flicker that maybe, just maybe there is more to it.
Hope is found everywhere. It is found in trees, rivers and even in the mountain valleys. Hope is when a small bird takes its first flight. Hope is when flowers bloom from buds and when butterflies escape the cocoon. Hope is when the sun shines bright and when the wind softly sways your mind. It’s everywhere. Hidden in plain sight. A major part of living life is hoping for it all. We are surrounded by this feeling. A feeling so feeble yet strong enough to move the greatest minds.
In Greek mythology, we come across the tale of ‘Pandora’s box’. The box was a gift from the gods to Pandora, the first woman on Earth. It contained all the evils of the world, which were released when Pandora opened the box. Pandora’s curiosity and intense greed to find out what was in the box, opened the gates for all the evil and bad feelings to take over. However, it also contained hope, which remained inside the box.
Symbolically, the box represents the curiosity and desire for knowledge that can lead to both negative consequences and positive outcomes. The evils inside the box can be seen as the challenges and difficulties of life, while the hope represents the optimism and resilience to overcome those challenges.

It’s this simple feeling that feels so superior if correctly used. The optimism to move forward even in the harshest of storms is what hope is about. It’s about getting hurt, in hope of finding something worthy enough for the scars. Hope is endurance. Hope is bravery. Hope is resilience. It’s what runs the world. Without hope, the evil feelings would take over. Even the tiniest flicker of hope can cause the wildest fires.
When hope comes knocking on your door, make sure to let it in. Even in the darkest of times, hope will always be there. Maybe you are unable to find it amidst the dark clouds. Maybe the darkness is too much for you to see anything other than the terror. Maybe you feel so feeble that you don’t have the strength to open the gates of your heart. Believe in hope. It’s your guide in the dark. It’s the warm candlelight that is unwavering. It might flicker as the cold wind gushes around it and freezes your soul but it never blows out. Like a willow tree which bends but never breaks.
Yes, hope is like a willow tree. It’s resilient. Always there. Always.
Hope
The dimly lit room has now darkened,
Windows shut close as something lurks in.
The corners feel like jail cells.
I am sitting there, all restrained.
.
My hands feeble, voice all gone.
The doors tremble but never break down.
I am unable to see even my palm’s lines.
The sky so dark that shivers run down my spine.
.
Beside me sits a candle;
The flame flickering but never blows out.
Hope flickers in me as the wick burns,
It makes me want to win the world.
.
Like a willow tree, the hope stands –
The wind bends it but never breaks.
My eyes twinkle as I bask in it,
The feeling of hope is always within.
